The 2009 Lachlan Tigers Slowpitch Team

The 2009 Slowpitch Season commenced at primrose Oval, Northbridge last night (Tuesday 3rd November), when the might Lachlan Tigers took on the might of the Wombats. In a reply of last years Grand Final the Wombats proved too strong for the Tigers running out victors by 18 runs to 14.
The 2009 Wombats defeat the tigers 18 - 14.

The tigers looked resplendent in their new uniforms which were supplied by walkin promotions (http://www.walkinpromotions.com.au/ ) and approach the upcoming season full of confidence after last years successful premiership. As Scott Mitchell commented " I'm going to hit them out of the park!" and he started the season in that confident manner hitting not 1 but 2 home runs. The other stars for the Tigers included Pierre Munk with 2 runs. Richard Aouchan with 1 and Sharon Bowie great play in the out field. A special mention goes to Arthur Dacey who attempt at a diving catch 'awe inspiring'.

Our gratitude to Softball NSW, especially general manager Cathy Kerr, who's dedication is legendary and ensures athletes with disabilities are part of the softball family.

We look forward to a great season. You can catch us every Tuesday evening at primrose Oval, Northbridge from 6 - 8 pm.

Go the tigers!

What a great result at the State Futsal championship

The Lachlan Tigers A Grade Team

The Lachlan Tigers were sensational at the 2009 State Futsal Championships at Hawkesberry Indoor Stadium.

In a tight contest in the A grade division the tigers played the DSA Raptors who were the hot favourite for the trophy. A great game followed with the tigers racing racing out to a 3 - 1 lead at half time. However the second half was a different game as the raptors came charging home. Even thought he tigers scored first to go to a 4 - 1 lead the raptors kept coming and tied the game up with a couple of minutes to play. During this time both teams hit the post but the ball refused to go in and as the whistle blew for full time the score was locked together at 4 - 4.

In the first period of extra play a long range shot from "Man of the match" Michael found the top left corner of the net and the Raptors ended up winning a game that was a credit to the players, coaches and spectators.

In the B grade grand final the lachlan Tigers were victorious against the Roselands Giants by 6 - 3. The game was played in great spirits and the tremendous efforts of everyone was great to see.
The weekend was a great success for the initial running of the 'Futsal4all' program. The guys all had a great time and enjoyed immensely the opportunity to be part of such a great competition. To witness first hand the skills and dedication of these futsal teams to be part of this competition is awe inspiring.
We look forward to going from strength to strength.

Michael on his way to another strike

Ten Pin Bowling - this year we participated in the 2009 National Championships at Sunshine Victoria from May 28th - June 5th.

We were successful in winning 7 medals (4 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze). We also spent an amazing week seeing the sights of Melbourne - an AFL game, the State of Origin Rugby League game, the musical 'Wicked', Fifteen restaurant, travelled on the trams, lost money at the Casino, and saw Chapel St, St.Kilda, Richmond, Lygon St and the MCG.

We are now building up to the next years National tittles which are in Perth, Western Australia in late May 2010. Places are gained by the results from our weekly competition and entry in the regional and State comps.

Futsal: What a year this has been! With the help of Football NSW, The Department of Sport and Recreation and The Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care a competition has been established (Futsal4all Cup) that provides the opportunity for people with disabilities to compete on the same stage as the mainstream futsal competitions. Indeed a pathway has been created that enables athletes with disabilities to be recognised in State representation and compete on a National Stage. We have a team competing in the State Championships at the Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium the weekend of October 31 and November 1. Up for grabs is places in the NSW team to compete at the National Championships in Canberra in January 2010.
What an exciting development.

Indoor Cricket: This years competition was fiercely contested and from our competition we had 6 people selected to represent NSW in the 2009 National Indoor Cricket Championship in Queensland. Unfortunately, we were not as successful as we hoped finishing last in the competition but all competitors gave it their all.

Softball: What a year it was for the Softball competition this year. We reached some amazing milestones. Firstly we launched the re branding of people with disabilities playing softball to 'Softball4all".

We also had an amazing 80 people participate in the 'Stanhope Cup' which is a competition run over 12 weeks for athletes with disabilities. The competition then selected a representative team that will challenge a representative team from Orange in early December at Blacktown Olympic Park.
To top of the year we had an amazing Black Tie dinner to recognise 20 years of involvement in sport for people with disabilities. The night was an amazing success and a credit to the dedication of Softball NSW general manager, Cathy Kerr who has given unrivalled support and commitment to ensuring athletes with disabilities get their time in the softball sun.
